Branx, MFNW. A husband-and-wife duo playing . . . what? What does one call this music? Folkscape? Psychochamber? Classical noise-rock? She plays mostly heavily processed viola and he plays mainly drums, but their loud, distorted, and strange output is far from New Age and very hard to classify - the closest analogy might be some of the less ambient passages of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. They use repeaters and a laptop computer to build up layers of sound, and aren't afraid to move from harmonious to dissonent in a moment. It's great to hear such a unique approach to music, and equally great to see such an original sound so well received by their loyal Portland fans.
