oddly, this puts Heschel's thought in mind:
“When I was young, I admired clever people. Now that I am old, I admire kind people.”

The sense that you know what you are doing prompts less kindness in attitudes and behaviors, the sense that you do not know what you are doing prompts greater kindness.

and don't think about this: when you then do behave kindly out of a simple humility...you know enough.
