From The Sports Desk

It's been a pretty rough month or so for the Sports Desk - the Celtics fold in the second round of the playoffs, the Bruins lose Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, and then the struggling Red Sox get clobbered in a two-game series against the Yankees in London of all places.

But the Sports Desk got to retire along with the rest of us and was rewarded today with an afternoon beer buzz at a local sports bar watching Team USA beat England in the World Cup Semifinal Game.  USA advances to the Final Game on Sunday; England gets to sit home and wonder if Brexit was really such a great idea after all.

We know that drinking during the day on only the second working day of our retirement isn't the most auspicious way to start Chapter Three, but not to worry - after Sunday's final, there aren't that many more major sporting events during the day to tempt us into a repeat performance.

We'll have to find another alibi to day drink.

Does the Sports Desk even understand football? That would be soccer to some of you readers...
Wimbledon is taking place over the next fortnight and I highly recommend that the Sports makes a pitcher of Pimms, a bowl of strawberries and cream and sits back to watch some lawn tennis. That’s what we’ll be doing.
