MFNW (strange that my spell check not only recognizes that acronym, but suggests it; "Bumbershoot," too) starts today, 24 hours after my arrival in Portland. After Bumbershoot, it felt slightly disorienting to go almost 2 days without hearing live music. Fortunately, though, I'll have plenty of opportunities to make up for lost time.
Remember The Kills? The band that I saw from 30,000 feet during Bumbershoot back on Sunday night? Well, they're giving me a second chance to see them up close and personal, because they're playing at The Crystal Ballroom tonight. Eleanor Friedberger and Michael Shuman's (Queens of the Stone Age) Mini Mansions are opening. Bonus Points: My hotel, the Mark Spencer, is practically adjacent to the Crystal Ballroom. It's literally right around the corner, a short two blocks away - it's almost as if the concert were in my living room.
Meanwhile, Seattle radio station KEXP (www.kexp.org) has posted some of the performances at Bumbershoot on their website, and will be broadcasting some live sets from MFNW. You can watch or listen or whatever over the net. Here's their proposed schedule (all times Pacific):
Maybe you'll see/hear me there, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get up in time to see Little Dragon at 10:30 in the morning. If I do, however, it should be awesome.
