Nearly 34,000 lightning strikes over the past week have caused fresh wildfires to break out in western Canada. As of this morning, there are 90 active wildfires in British Columbia and forests continued to burn in Ontario.
More than 90,000 people have fled wildfires in Spain and France. Madrid has declared a national emergency and French authorities ordered the total evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula on the Atlantic coast in the face of an “intense, highly unpredictable” wildfire that has burned through more than 30,900 acres of forest.
In happier news, Tesla’s stock fell about 13.5% yesterday in one of the biggest single-day market losses in the company’s history. The company lost about 27% of its market value as weaker-than-expected profits worry investors and soaring oil prices amp up inflation worries. Due to the declines in Tesla and SpaceX stock prices, Elon Musk lost his trillionaire status although, sadly, he still remains the world's wealthiest individual.
