Day of the Heart's Blood, 70th of Summer, 525 M.E. (Helios): Weird, just weird. It rained like crazy last night and most of the day today (I had to cancel my alternating-day walk), and apparently it was some sort of cool front moving in. It's only 64° out right now, late afternoon in August in Georgia Freaking USA. It was in the 90s on Friday. It's some much appreciated relief from the heat dome of last week, but it's disorientingly cool outside. It feels like late October. In the Pacific Northwest.

It's been quiet on the hurricane front so far this season, although there are currently three systems in the Atlantic worth watching. One's off the coast of North Carolina with a 70% chance of forming into a tropical storm, but it appears to already have been caught by the Gulf Stream and heading northwest, away from the U.S. coast. Another's off the coast of South Carolina but currently only has a 20% chance of developing in the next week. A third is off the west coast of Africa and moving west-northwest across the Atlantic with a 40% of formation, and is probably the one most worthy of keeping an eye on.

Orson Welles once said, "posterity is vulgar." I have no idea how to work that quote into this post or why I want to, but there it is.

A friend of mine just got a tattoo, her first (at least as far as I've seen), that say's "I'm F.I.N.E." Readers of Louise Penny might immediately recognize the initials to mean "Fucked-up, Insecure, Neurotic, and Egotistical," but of course my mind immediately went to "First in New England." Or "Finding It's Not Enough." Maybe, it meant "Fully Inclined to Need Erotica" or "Freakishly Indispensable Noncognitive Empathy." Or perhaps it's advise for despondent motorists: "Fuck It. Next Exit," but in that case, the tattoo should be "I'm All F.I.N.E."

Posterity is vulgar.
