Today is the day for the wisdom mind, for with it we are not separated from buddha, dharma and sangha.
On this day in 1993, composer, guitarist and bandleader Frank Zappa died of prostate cancer. Impermanence is swift.
Georgia had its first case of the omicron variant yesterday, but the carrier is already gone. The Georgia Department of Public Health said a woman was in Georgia for two days between arriving from South Africa and traveling onward to New Jersey. The Health Department laboratory performed sequencing on the specimen to confirm it was the omicron variant and said contact tracing was ongoing in both Georgia and New Jersey. They said no additional cases have been found so far in Georgia.
Omicron has also been confirmed in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, and Hawaii.
The parents of that asshole kid who killed four of his fellow high-school students during a shooting spree went of the lam but were found and arrested in Detroit. Near the river. Possibly trying to flee to Canada. People tend to forget, but Detroit is as much of a frontier town as, say, Loredo - it's just on a different border. Gamers who've played Detroit: Stay Human know it's a border town and know the difficulties and challenges of trying to cross the icy Detroit River into Canada. The fact that the parents were hiding in an abandoned commercial building, and were apparently aided in getting into the building, gives it even more of a Kara/Alice vibe.
There's a football game today. The SEC Championship. Georgia versus Alabama. The undefeated, 12-0 Bulldogs versus the team that's dashed their national championship hopes twice now in the past few years. The game's being played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Kanye's old home), about 3½ miles south of here. For me today, this is the only thing that matters. Everything else is just so much background noise. Go, Dogs!
