Blues for poor woe-begotten Georgia. Over the last seven days, we've suffered 219 covid deaths per 100,000 citizens (0.22%), second in the country only to Florida. For a brief moment earlier this week, Georgia held the No. 1 spot.
We're tied with Alabama and Nevada for most deaths (4) per 100,000 people over the last seven days. Mississippi, Louisiana and Arizona are tied for first with 6 deaths, and Florida, Texas and South Carolina are tied for second with 5 deaths.
All-time, Georgia is 5th for covid cases, racking up 212,009 since the pandemic began.
Across the world, there are some 5,200,000 covid cases and 167,000 deaths. But if the world's infection rate were as bad as Georgia's, there would be 156,000,000 infected and over 3,250,000 dead. Fortunately for most of the world, their leadership listens to science when deciding health policy, and doesn't hawk miracle cures, predict it will all somehow just disappear, "like magic," and act more on concerns about short-term economic metrics than human health.
