I actually watched this movie as a young boy, and remember thinking at the time that 1970 was way in the future.

I remember a vague feeling of disappointment on New Year's Day, 1970, and realizing that we weren't yet in the Atomic Age (except for the imminent threat of a Cold War nuclear holocaust), similar to the let-down I felt at the end of 1984, despite the relief that we weren't yet under an totalitarian regime.

In retrospect, it's probably not the wisest thing to put an expiration date on your futuristic fantasies.
