Toro Y Moi
Fountain Lawn Stage, Bumbershoot. South Carolina's Toro Y Moi, who arrived on the scene with a series of bedroom, dream-pop songs, has transformed over the past year into something far funkier and danceable than those initial recordings suggested. Tonight, he blew the crowd away with an exciting set of electronic funk, channeling everybody from Stevie Wonder to Sly Stone. At times during his set, he hinted at the future direction his music might go when he grabbed the microphone and came out from behind his bank of synths to sing and entertain directly in front of the crowd. Although brief, these moments suggested that the electronic musician might really be an R&B crooner at heart.
