Perhaps as compensation for the paucity of posts this week, or perhaps just because I can't make up my mind, I offer not one but three videos for this week's installment of Friday Night Videos. Above is a beautiful and fascinating cover of Arcade Fire by Mr. Little Jeans, who take what was already a great song and turn it into a moving meditation on loss and longing.
Below is the beautiful and fascinating St. Vincent exploring similar themes in a new song from her forthcoming album, Strange Mercy. She'll be touring in support of the album and I've got tickets to see her at The Earl in October, a show I'm eagerly anticipating.
Finally, here's a third slow song, another ballad of unrequited love and suffering. Don't be put off by the title - this may very well be the best song written so far in 2011. If you listen to this after 1 am, you will not be able to get it out of your head all night. And the accompanying video is a masterfully understated and restrained interpretation of the artist's vision.
