It has been widely suspected that the conviction of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was a deliberate diversion to take some of the heat off of Cheney and Bush. If that were so, one could easily imagine that they might have been tempted to stuff the jury box with those sympathetic to their cause, which here means antagonistic toward Scooter.

Well, it turns out that Denis Collins, the juror in the case who delivered a lengthy post-verdict commentary for the press, spent about a decade at The Washington Post. He had worked with Bob Woodward at the Post, and was a neighbor of NBC's Tim Russert. Much of the trial came down to Libby's testimony vs. Russert's, and who's sitting on the jury?

Tim Russert's neighbor and fellow journalist Denis Collins.

Bad jury screening? Perhaps. Coincidence? Could be. But then there's this:

Collins has also written several books, including "Spying: The Secret History of History," so the man's no stranger to skulduggery.

Now the only question is, having served his sacrificial role as fall guy for the White House, will the lame duck president pardon him after the 2008 elections?
You conspiracy theorists can take it from here.

This is a commnet on the post "what is it like to be a bat" because commenting there was not enabled.

A lot of us can't say with any useful degree of insight what it is like to be a Presbyterian. Bat? Well its an exercise anyway.
