"Proceed clearly. Do not cloud the mind with intoxicants."

It has been estimated that about twelve billion display ads, 3 million radio commercials and more than 200,000 TV commercials are aimed each day at North Americans. Three thousand marketing messages intoxicate our minds each day. Virtually no one is immune.

Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn has expanded the Fifth Precept to include junk television, advertising, magazines and candy as intoxicants. To that list I would add:

Politics
The Internet
Video Games
Consumer Electronics
Religion

I'm sure you could think of others (if you're not already too intoxicated).

Sipping merlot as I type this...

I found an interesting Mesoamerican myth about Orion, which is where Horsehead is located... I always thought it looked less like a horsehead than like a decapitated torso... and their myth about Orion is about a decapitated man.

Hope all is well.

Internal growth and eternal happiness,
