Dreaming of the Masters

The Sun Ra Arkestra at the height of their powers: France, January 1972.  The French announcer finally stops talking after about 1:15 ("Sun Ra asked me to introduce him and tell you a little bit about himself") and what follows is an uncut 30 or so minutes of the kind of Arkestra performance I used to see in New York and Boston back in the '70s.

For those of you keeping score at home, the song behind the opening credits is Somebody Else's Idea.  The long dance-and-drum piece is appropriately named Watusi (the credits say "Enlightenment" but who you gonna believe, me or some French t.v. show?), and the video ends with a version of Discipline followed by an unnamed Sun Ra keyboard solo (he was just getting going when the closing credits start rolling).

But those dancers though . . . .
