Today's zoological oddity is neither a cuttlefish (although it might be one in camouflage - you never know), a bunyip (whatever they might actually look like), nor a pangolin (not scaly enough), but a tardigrade, often called a water bear or moss piglet. Although microscopic, tardigrades are multi-cellular animals that may be the hardiest living beings on Earth. They're almost impossible to kill, and they can even survive the deprivations of space. If shot to Mars, a colony of tardigrades would get along just fine.
We need to be like tardigrades at work and resist all the negative energy flying around us. We have very little to do and spend most of our day reading The Times and Guardian online and scrolling through Reddit for something to amuse us. But the easy boredom of the day is frequently interrupted by the anger from management, who are convinced that we're retiring just to stick it to them. We've not heard one "congratulations" or "good for you" from them yet, just a recurring cross-examination of what our real motive might be. Compared to the hard work that we know others do to make a living, sitting around all day surfing the 'net and getting occasional douchey comments from the boss isn't bad, but it's reminding us that we made the right decision to leave. They're not bringing us joy and it's time to Marie Kondo them out of our life.
Impermanence is swift, and life and death is the great matter. If you're not enjoying the life you're living right now, it's time to move on - this isn't a dress rehearsal.
