We finally did it - we finally completed Assassin's Creed Odyssey after 217 hours, 31 minutes of playing. That's the official time according to the game itself - according to Steam, we've been playing for 276 hours. We don't know why there's a discrepancy between the two or which one is right.
Of course, we can still keep on playing if we were to so choose - there's still plenty of fortresses left to be sieged, random quests to be fulfilled, and if we ever feel like we need to jump into a den of wolves for some reason and then hack our way out with a sword, the game's got us covered.
But we finally completed all of the story lines, and late last week we finally beat the competition and took sole possession of the Top Tier in the mercenary rankings. Late last night, we defeated the last member of the nefarious Cult of Cosmos. Today, we completed the last of the goofy Animus quests - the present-day framework narrative over which the historical saga is hung. That's pretty much it, unless our OCD kicks in and compels us to loot every treasure chest, kill every beast, and fight every combatant willing to draw a sword on us.
We started playing this game back on February 8. Despite nearly daily play, it took us until April 6 to complete it. Obviously, we liked it - we wouldn't have been playing for so long if we hadn't - but to be honest, we're looking forward to a break.
We're going to have to think long and hard about what we play next - when one plays as frequently as we do and for as many hours, the game starts to sink into our subconscious. For the sake of our sanity, we don't know if we're ready for another massive open-world RPG.
