A couple of weeks ago, we said the Winner of the Week was the Games Desk, because they dominated our time with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. We're now going to have to take it further and acknowledge that the Games Desk was the Winner of the Month.
Once again, according to the Steam Statistics, we've played for 170 hours since February 8, 87.4 hours of which was in the last two weeks alone. Somehow, that's more hours than we've worked!
What's more impressive is that by our best estimate, we're only about halfway through th game, and our playing time to get all the way through the previous Assassin's Creed game, Origins, was 189 hours, and that includes some pretty expansive DLC. At this rate, it will take us some 250 hours to complete Odyssey, and they've just released some DLC for that, too, so how long we'll be playing in total is pretty much anybody's guess.
We're glad that unlike other games, Odyssey doesn't have a body count - we have no idea how many opponents we've killed in the course of the game, but by any reckoning we're sure that we qualify as mass murderers bordering on genocide (if acts of war qualify as genocide) (they do, the Ethics Desk tells us).
Someday, we'll look back at all of the wasted time and wonder what we have to show for it, but we ask how is that different from time wasted watching television or reading?
