Never Forget (9/11 Post)

Today is Saturday, the 11th day of September, the 254th day of the year 2021.  111 days remain until the end of the year.

Here in Atlanta, the sun rose at 7:18 a.m. this morning and will set at 7:49 p.m. tonight for 12 hours and 31 minutes of daylight.  The waxing crescent moon is 26.3% illuminated and rose at 12:13 p.m. this afternoon.  It will set at 10:57 tonight.

Today would have been Dylan Klebold's 40th birthday.  Along with classmate Eric Harris, Dylan was one of the perpetrators responsible for the Columbine High School massacre on April 20. 1999.  The pair killed twelve of their fellow students and one teacher before taking their own lives.

Never forget: On this day in 1857, Mormon settlers and Paiutes massacred 120 pioneers at Mountain Meadows, Utah. The victims were part of a wagon train of families from Arkansas, bound for California on a route that passed through the Utah Territory.

Never forget: On this date in 1954, Hurricane Edna made landfall in New England as a Category 2 hurricane, resulting in significant damage and 29 deaths.

Never forget: On this date in 1968, Air France Flight 1611 crashed off of Nice, killing 89 passengers and six crew.

Never forget: On this date in 1974, Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 crashed in Charlotte, North Carolina, killing 69 passengers and two crew.

Never forget: On this date in 1987, reggae star Peter Tosh was murdered in his own home by a three-man gang demanding money.

Never forget: On this date in 2009, punk poet and musician Jim Carroll died from a heart attack.  Carroll is probably best known for his song People Who Have Died.

Never forget: On this date in 2012, the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya was attacked, resulting in four deaths.

Impermanence is swift.
