Lollapalooza 2021

The Lollapalooza music festival was held this weekend in Chicago.  The organizers required attendees to either provide proof of vaccination or of a negative covids test taken within the past three days. People have reportedly been turned away at the gate, even if they had tickets, if they couldn't provide proper documentation.  Still, that's a lot of people obviously not practicing social distancing and it's hard to spot anyone in that crowd wearing a mask.  Commenters on Reddit claim they've found four masks in the picture above. At least they're all outdoors.

Still, it's hard not to imagine this as a superspreader event.  If they're all vaccinated as required for attendance, none of them are likely to suffer severe symptoms or require medical attention, but they all could still contract the virus, taking it home with them through airports, to family dinners, and to workplaces next week.  Vaccinated people may not get seriously sick themselves, but the evidence is mounting that they can still shed the virus and spread it to others.

Headliners at Lollapalooza tonight will be the Foo Fighters, Brockhampton, and Modest Mouse. Rapper DaBaby was scheduled to also headline one of the festival stages tonight, but it was announced today that he was being cancelled because of his homophobic comments on stage last weekend in Miami. Young Thug will headline in his place, and when it's decided that someone named "Young Thug" better represents community values than you, you know you've gone too far.

At least DaBaby won't get DaCovids.
