Not that we're procrastinating or that we're getting cold feet about taking that next step, but it doesn't make sense to actually start our retirement until this coming July.   Right now, we're still getting our health insurance through work, the corporate health plan funded by deductions from our paychecks.  But come July, we'll be eligible for Medicare and have already been told that at that point, we'll be kicked off the company's insurance plan anyway.  So rather than be uninsured for three months, or pay for a disastrously expensive short-term personal plan, we'll stay at work through to the end of our participation in their insurance.

It just seems appropriate to start our retirement on Independence Day.

That will also give us three more months to invest a quarter year's salary into our 401k retirement plan.  That will also give us ample time to start to wrap up some of the long-term projects we've been working on, to transition some of our projects to other staff, and not leave our loyal clients in a pinch.  It's the right thing to do.

We've been reading on-line advice on when to tell your employer that you're taking "early" retirement.     On the one hand, it's arguably the ethical thing to do to give them as much advance warning as possible so that they can plan for the transition, but on the other hand, they might become vindictive and retributive and even terminate your employment immediately.  We don't think our bosses would fire us upon getting the news.  We know it sounds egotistical, but we don't think they could afford to fire us - we have too much of the company's expertise and bring in too many clients.  If they could fire us, they would have already.  But they could very likely make life simply miserable for us in the meantime - no more reason to even pretend to be civil.  We might be lucky and everything might work out just fine, but we have to consider the alternative and tread carefully.

Therefore, we'll probably make an announcement sometime in early June - 30 days notice - and hope for the best or suffer the worst.  But until then, it's our little secret so, shhhh, please, nobody tell them.  We know we can trust the internet to keep a secret.

Congratulations on retirement! Sounds awesome. I would definitely upgrade my video card. Now is a good time too because I think the prices are more normal after they shot up when all the normies were buying them to farm bitcoins. I need to upgrade my computer too mine is 8 years old or something with no upgrades. Upgrades last a long time now though because the rate of improvement doesn't seem as fast as it used to be.

I feel like I had that weight lifted off my chest about career and ambition when I was really young and it sort of made me what most people would probably call lazy. But screw what other people think honestly. I just can't live like that. My mind just won't bend that way any more. You know you could always move out to a less populated area. It's much cheaper, but it wouldn't have the live music you're used to. You can always get a really nice audiophile level pair of headphones or speakers though that's what I do. I look at it for me sort of like artists and people like that living in the hood or something so they can make their lifestyle work financially. It's not so bad with the internet. There's less noise and chaos around but also less opportunity to do things if you don't make your own fun. It's really whatever you choose to make it. I don't know how people afford to live in cities.

Are you going to play Sekiro? It just came out a few hours ago and I'm starting it right now.

Oh also by the way, if you play Sekiro on PC you might need a controller. It's from the Dark Souls developers FromSoft and their games can be pretty hard, but they are fun and well crafted games if you like some difficulty. You can get a controller for your PC though I like the Dual Shock 4 ps4 controllers personally.
