Poliça

Minneapolis' Poliça was reportedly one of the stand-out acts of this years SXSW festival.  They arrived in a buzz of anticipation due to the recent release of their debut album and an endorsement from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, and reportedly lived up to or even exceeded all expectations.  Tonight, fresh from SXSW, Poliça are playing at the Drunken Unicorn here in Atlanta.

Poliça's music is a chilly fusion of jazz, blues, and electronica. Singer Channy Leaneagh, formerly known as Channy Moon Casselle (Gayngs and Roma di Luna), uses AutoTune to manipulate her vocals against the band's sliding violins, saxophone, and dueling drums.  Their debut album, Give You the Ghost, was mixed by Jim Eno of Spoon and produced by Ryan Olson of Gayngs.

To quote The New Yorker, because why not?:
The hypnotic Minneapolis band Poliça puts on a stunning show, propelled by a pair of powerful drummers.  Its debut album, Give You the Ghost, features danceable, mid-tempo songs with pop hooks drenched in chunky distorted guitar chords, and the vocalist Channy Casselle's birdlike warble creates a thick and beautiful sound.
Atlanta's Sleepy Genes and Dark Room are the openers.  Here are a few samples.

Pictures will follow.
