Motopony
Fountain Green Stage, Bumbershoot. If Lemolo started the day on a sweet note, or rather on sweet notes, Seattle's Motopony set the bar pretty high for the rest of the day. Singer Daniel Blue, who looks like the child Jim Morrison might have had with Kurt Cobain, if such a thing were biologically or chronologically possible, has a great voice that cuts right through the instrumentation to sound like a young, soulful Van Morrison. I've heard a few songs of theirs before, but hadn't expected to be as blown away as I was. Why this band is not more popular or well known, and playing at noon rather than headlining, is beyond me. Watch for them - they're terrific.
