Explosions In the Sky, Part Two

KEXP show at the Doug Fir Lounge, MFNW.  EITS are Austin psych-rock instrumentalists with a very loyal fan base - their KEXP show had the biggest audience I've seen for these things all week, even bigger than yesterday's for Typhoon, and I've been to almost all of the KEXP shows this week.  EITS' typical strategy is to start a song slowly with some ambient soundscape that would not sound out of place in a New Age mixtape, and gradually build up to an explosive climax before settling back down into the earlier, quiet passages.  Live, they play several songs together seamlessly without intervening breaks, the quieter interludes after each climax the build up to the next explosion.  It's a testament to their artistry that the capacity crowd was stone silent even during some of the longer quiet passages - they had the audience right in the palms of their hands.
