Ages and Ages
EMP Level 3 Stage, Bumbershoot. A seven-person band from Portland, Ages and Ages play a lovely form of what can be called, "choral, folk rock." Everyone in the band sings and sings well, and they arrange their songs into complex choral compositions, such that they sound like an upbeat, former church choir that decided to go secular (although that might be exactly what they are, for all I know). They played a captivating set that completely enchanted the audience, and sounded so sincere and sweet and life affirming that they allowed you to drop any cynicism or pretence, and just enjoy the music. A wonderful, transporting set.
