Animal Collective

I don't think I mentioned that the guys from Lyonnais were in the audience at the John Maus/Puro Instinct show the other night.

But that's the past.  Tonight, Animal Collective are playing out in suburban Alpharetta, Georgia as part of a short, six-date summer tour.  What's more, Atlas Sound (Bradford Cox of Georgia's Deerhunter) is also on the bill (bonus points!). And Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors!

The tour opened last night in Orlando and tomorrow night they play at the Merriweather Post Pavillion.

Alpharetta, where they've chosen to play this evening, is about 22 miles north of here.  Verizon Wireless has built a big amphitheater out there, a "summer home" for the Atlanta Symphony.  I've expressed my feelings in here about the suburbs before, and think it's kind of a shame the Animal Collective expect their fans to drive all the way out to Alpharetta, an almost exclusively all-white town unblemished by any trace of public transportation. The fossil fuels that will be burned, the carbon feet imprinted, all because some promoter needed to fill a suburban venue.

Of course, it's Animal Collective, and Atlas Sound, and Angel Deradoorian, so none of that will keep me from going . . .
